Paper tuning is a good method for acheiving "clean" flying arrows. A clean flying arrow is one that leaves the bow straight with no wobble or porpoising in flight. Clean flying arrows are faster, quieter, and more accurate (especialy with broadheads) then ones that are not.
To paper tune we shoot your arrow through a sheet of paper suspended in a frame. (picture 1) The goal is to tune the bow by adjusting the rest, nock point, limbs, or strings and cables until the tear left by the arrow in the suspended paper is clean. (picture 2)
To make sure the arrow is flying straight we test at 6 feet and at 10-12 feet from the suspended paper. Only after your arrow is flying clean do we go on to the next step which is sighting in your first pin at 20 yards.
